Fighting the Romans. Task nº5: Helping Primus.

While the class and me were working on the previous tasks I realized they were curious about one issue present in the text: the druids and their magic powers.

So I decided to prepare a webquest to allow them to inquiry about these enigmatic characters.

The conductor character for the webquest is Primus, a spanish born roman soldier of the British Legion, who is very afraid of the Druids powers. ¿Could we help him to find an amulet for such magic?

Here is the link to the webquest. I hope you enjoy it….

Fighting the Romans. Task nº3: Interviewing Boudicca´s Characters.

* For this task, we all were transformed into time travelling reporters. We had to interview the main Characters in Boudicca´s story: Boudicca, Addedo, Antonious and Centurion.

* We divided the class in 4 groups of 5 pupils each (the groups for this month) and each group had to design and carry out a short fiction interview to one of the main characters:

Group one (Represented by Claudia) – Boudicca.

Group two (Represented by Duna) – Addedo.

Group three (Represented by Pablo) – Antonious

Group four (Represented by Carmelo) – Centurion

* Every group had to write a consensus script of the interview.

* After they had write it, they had to choose two actors to play de roles of the interviewer and the character.

* They had to record the interview with the recording application in a smartphone, upload it into podmatic, and post the link into the class blog.

[Here you can download a sample recording with one of the interviews]

Fighting the Romans. Task nº1: The Verbs of Boudicca.

This is the first task ralated to Boudicca´s story

At home, the puplis listened to the podcast by the BBC about the story of Boudicca two or three times. They had to write down all the verbs they heard.

When they´ve finished, they had to access the public document created in the class drive of the gmail email address called: “The verbs of Boudicca” . In it they should add their recognized verbs to the list, in alphabetic order. Here is the link.

The day after in class we reviewed and debated the list and corrected and completed it, at the same time as we worked with the meaning of the verbs.

Target Grades: 6th Grade (A and B)
Schedule: One hour session. 25/11/2015.
Assessment items: - verbs provided to the list; - participation in the debates; - participation in the meaning research.

Fighting the Romans!!!!

With this enigmatic and intriguing title I posted in the class blog the following text (the excuse to work with different verbs and nouns related to war field:

"In Social Studies you´re studying the Roman Empire. Did you know that the Romans also arrived to England?

In the first years of the current era, England was conquered by Romans legions.

At the beginning they negotiated with local leaders safety for taxes (in kind).  But as they were well established they began to break the agreements achieved and to subdue the different tribes.

All members of the different native groups where considered from that moment slaves of the Roman citizens who lived in England, and all their goods and properties where transferred to that same Roman citizens and soldiers.

None of the leaders felt strong enough to fight the Roman legions. None?

Boudicca the brave queen of the northern tribe of the Icnies, fought fiercely against them. This is her story.
